Federal regulators are looking into the fact whether Toyota’s unintended acceleration issues are being caused by cosmic rays – and no we’re not kidding. Radiation from space has long affected airplanes and space shuttles and is known for causing errors in computer systems.

It was recently reported that some consumers are still facing sudden acceleration issues even after their recalled vehicles have been fixed by Toyota dealerships.

The recent study of cosmic rays shows just how deep regulators are digging to solve the mystery of unintended accelerations in Toyotas.

The move comes after an anonymous tipster whose complaint prompted regulators to look at the issue said that the design of Toyota’s microprocessors, memory chips and software could make them more vulnerable than those used by other automakers.

“I think it could be a real issue with Toyota,” Sung Chung, who runs a California testing firm, said. Toyota told the Free Press that its engine controls are “robust against this type of interference.”

We’ll find out soon enough.

wow….that is absolutely ludicrous. airplanes and space shuttles are affected due to high altitudes. how often do you see a camry cruising at 40,000 ft?

So after his near crash, the man with the runaway Prius in San Diego gets his car towed to — ready for this — his TOYOTA dealership???!!! So we are supposed to believe that Toyota did “nothing” to the owner's Prius ??? Is everybody (and every media organization) taking a STUPID PILL ???? Not one person, or reporter, or news anchorman asked about this. And then a couple of days later a fat jerk from Toyota USA comes out to say that “there's nothing wrong with the Prius” and that everything the owner of the Prius says is crap. Well guess what Toyota…we don't buy it. There are rumors coming from one of Toyota's past corporate lawyers that they knew about these brake and acceleration issues but tried to hide it. So what's the only card left for Toyota to play ? Make every owner of a Prius, or a Camry, or an Avalon, think twice about publicly complaining about their problematic cars. And don't let their President Akio Toyoda try to cry it off…..don't forget he bacame President last summer just after being a VP in charge of quality assurance and global operations while these crap cars were being made. Well the joke is on them. More Toyota cars will go crazy on their owners and Toyota's share of the world market will go down to 5 %. The only remaining people crazy enough to buy Toyotas will be politicians with Toyota factories in their states and 70 year old grannies who have very little to live for anyway. Wake up World !

Toyota is no doubt suffering in the court of public opinion. Their perceived lack of concern for their customers will have lasting affects. But Ford Motors comes in 2nd with over 50+ “Sudden Unintended Acceleration” cases. My Pontiac Car had a bad anti lock brake control unit so GM has also had serious recalls this year. I looked on http://www.carpedalrecall.com and found the recall info and local dealership listing; my co Worker had a pedal recall on his ford truck so just look out .
