Over the last year, General Motors and Ford Motor Company have both greatly improved their lineups. The Ford and Chevrolet brands have both offered some well built, quality vehicles to the masses while Lincoln and Cadillac have greatly improved their offerings to compete with foreign luxury automakers.

Of course, we can’t say the same for Chrysler, which is still undergoing restructuring under Fiat SpA.

So, if you’re in the market for a new car (or you can just play pretend) we were wondering if you’d purchase a GM or Ford vehicle. This is not a Yes or No question – it’s a GM or Ford question.

Some vehicles you may want to consider when coming up with your answer: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, 2010 Ford Mustang, 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, 2011 Ford Edge, 2010 Cadillac SRX, 2010 Lincoln MKT, 2010 Buick LaCrosse, 2010 Lincoln MKS, 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, 2012 Ford Focus, 2010 Ford Fiesta, 2010 Ford Fusion/Fusion Hybrid, 2010 GMC Terrain, 2010 Cadillac CTS/CTS-V/CTS Sport Wagon, 2011 Buick Regal… and many more.

GM – hands down. I'm sorry they just design better looking and better feeling vehicles

  • mleahey35

Ford- I have dove some of the new GM products and was not inpressed

  • guest

No except for a full size truck, Corvette, or new Focus.

  • Bumblefoot

    Ford.

  • xbpdavis11x

It's hard to say… I would say there's a few GM cars I would drive but my vote would mostly go to Ford since I love the styling and reliability of their cars

  • tall1

Yes and that is a vast change in my mindset from a couple years ago. In the past I have only bought Japanese, but with GM and Ford paying more attention to design, efficiency and interior quality, my mind is being pushed to now consider them for future vehicles. The only reservation I am having is what their dealer service experience will be like. Although i often find that issues with service departments are a function of the dealer not the manufacturer. Way to go Ford and GM!

  • Dane

    Ford

We just bought a Tahoe last year. The 2003 Impala we have is up to 112,000 miles, going to try and make it last as long as possible.

If I was to buy something new it would be a GM truck or CTS sport wagon (still waiting on a V model) as my first 2 choices. In practicality I would wait for the new American made Aveo or Orlando and se what they look like in person.

  • Sofia

Ford. Best quality and amazing styling

  • Adam

    Ford – want that fiesta

  • Bryant

Yes I would buy from Ford or GM. I am even considering buying a new Dodge Ram (Chrysler's best vehicle in my opinion). For years and years Ford and GM had to cut corners (cheap interiors) in order to offset the massive amount of costs with the out dated UAW policies, health care, and retirement than most of their foreign competitors did NOT have to worry about.

Things are changing and it is good to buy American (auto) again! I am still bitter at Mercedes Benz for screwing up Chrysler so much!!!

  • coolpurplefan

Hell, if Ford comes out with a Taurus wagon AWD, I'd take it from behind and have sex with it.

  • Rob

Yes. After seeing Consumer Reports ranking of the Fusion, I'm looking for one now. I don't recall seeing a car ranked as high as the 2010 model.

I just purchased a 2010 Cadillac CTS PREMIUM, so my answer would be yes to GM. I have always owned Ford products in the past, but the design, interior and quality of the CTS changed my mind. I also cross shopped BMW-5 series and a Audi A4/A6 but the exterior and interior of the design lead me to the Cadillac CTS. I would have never purchased a GM several years ago as their interiors were horrible. GM and Ford are on the right track and building vehicles that can compete or even exceed the competition.

If I had to choose, it'd be Ford. Government Motors has ensured that I will not buy a vehicle from them in my lifetime.

  • Bobby

I'd buy one from both without a doubt. People like AWDios always confuse me. Hey pal, do you use a bank? You better not, they all took bailout money. Hypocrite.

  • Jobar

I love my new 2010 equinox. 30 mpg on highway and all the room I need. Especially nice is the head and leg room.

  • Bumblefoot

    This is great!

  • Juscurious

Either or both. I have my eyes on several models from each company. I will make a decision by June. The American Car companies have been getting a bad rap from various idiots in the media and some consumer publicantions. CR is the worst of the worst. They are shrills for the Japanese. Don't pay attention to them.

  • jack86545

I'd buy a GM over a Ford. Ford is given a free ride from Consumer Reports. GM makes better cars.

  • jack87545

Government Motors will pay their loans and the government will make a hefty profit. How does that strike you!

  • GMfan87

those are the only two automakers i WILL buy from. GM over Ford without a doubt, but for some reason Ford trucks are really appealing to me and the fusion hybrid is a great contender in the hybrid market. GM needs to get better in that segment. other than those i'm a GM guy all the way.

on another note i'm surprised there has only been one negative comment out of 21 total…maybe they are making headway image-wise

  • TENRTEN

    FORD!!!! FOR GET OBAMA

  • OBSERVER84

    FORD

  • Rich

Ford – I have a new 2010 Mustang.. and also looking at getting the new F150

  • cm1701

Ed Whitacre, GM chairman and CEO has been quotes as saying he would like to pay back portions of the loan(s) earlier than the previously announced June, and has also suggested that the Government might actually make a bit of profit once GM goes public again.

I would suggest that's a much better deal that the US people are getting from the Bank Bailouts.

And why are anti Obama comments being posted here? Until very late 2008, the previous administration did little to nothing to help the automakers.

I would purchase the 2011 Focus, the current Fusion and Taurus.
on the GM Side- the LaCrosse, the Camaro and CTS (coupe wow!)

  • hola87

    FORD for sure–EDGE?

  • gtc954

I have a new 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS. I drove a Murano SL for three years before that. I cannot tell you how much I love this car and there is not a day that goes by without someone telling me how much they love how it looks. It drives incredible and if they keep making them like this I will never buy a foreign car again.

  • Jeff

    GM

  • rifboy

    Ford!
    No Govt Motors for me!

  • bob

FORD for sure…..”Obama Motors” is a disaster

  • Charles

Yes, I would buy a Ford. GM, not yet, but maybe in the near future. Grand C-Max is looking like a replacement for my 2004 Focus station wagon (120,000 miles and going strong).

I will not buy any car not recommended by Consumer Reports. So I hope the Focus lasts long enough that Consumer Reports can get data on the Grand C-Max.

  • Red70Mach1

Just ordered my 2011 Mustang GT. All around superior to ths fat-ass camaro (camaro made in Canada). Ford all the way. GM Never! They went bankrupt, sucked on the taxpayer teet and will only repay a small portion of the bailout they got. Read the facts!

  • patrick

I am and always have been a Ford guy but I really like what GM is doing. I would say Ford because…Well, my parents have a v6 fusion and it literally blew away a an Impala SS that was very new. The feel of Ford's new transmissions is awesome…The shifts are flawless. Again, I do love what GM is doing but they've haven't done enough to shift my loyalty

  • hupow

If the democrat Nancy Pelosi would not have allowed the gas prices to soar in August 08 by recessing congress we would not have seen the failures we did. The last administration did not need to help at that time. You are an idiot!!!

  • jcr67444

    Neither

  • erickent

Like you are clueless. I guess you have not heard any of the facts in this matter.

  • Sheldon

Been screwed by GM too many times – NO WAY. Ford yes but nothing produced by the UAW or now in Mexico (I still can't believe what the Mexican President said in our Senate chamber! – frickin hypocrite!) I want something made in a 'right to work' state. Guess I will stick with Toyota and Lexus. We should have let GM go under!!!

  • Scarman

I would definitely buy another GM vehicle. I owned a 2003 CTS (white diamond) for 5 years without any issues. I was very pleased with the performance and reliability. I will say GM could have executed a much better interior but overall I was happy with this car. A relative purchased the new 2010 LaCrosse, which the ride quality and style impressed me. I always believed GM has great talent which could never be unleashed in the past because of bureacracy and/or mounting debt burdeing the company. Their execution now has certainly been noticed by many.

  • Wwest

To hell with gm, I will never buy another. I really hope and pray that they go bankrupt again. Just replaced a water pump in a 2.4 liter and all that I could think and say for two days now is wtf its just a water pump WHO EVER designed that shit needs to be took out and shot period.
