As mentioned yesterday, FoMoCo will unveil its replacement for the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor to a bunch of cops in Las Vegas later today – well, here are the first pictures of the Taurus based Police Interceptor you might end up seeing in your rear-view mirror in 2012.

The Crown Victoria will end production in Sept. 2011 and will be replaced by this Ford Taurus turned Police Interceptor.

We don’t have all the tech specs yet, but we’re pretty sure that the V6 EcoBoost and the AWD system will all be part of the game.

The Taurus Police Interceptor will go head-to-head with the Dodge Charger cruiser (which may also see a redesign in 2011) and the Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol car.

Stay tuned for more pictures and the official press release.

Not big enough. It's obvious the rocket scientists behind this idea haven't had to sit in a squad car for an extended period of time in full gear, nor have they had the luxary of sitting in the passenger seat for a shift with an MDT system crowding you. This is a horrible concept. Hello Dodge.

The Taurus is much larger then the Charger and it doesn't have that low roof line like the Charger.

This is pure junk. Why not just buy out the Chevy impala or bring back the Dodge Intrepid for a police car. What a joke. I agree with disapointedcop that whoever comes up with these “concepts” have no real world experience in anything, but a CAD program. I'm not a cop, but I install aftermarket equipment daily in emergency vehicles. From experience there is nothing that compares to the old tried and true crown vic. It's roomy and there is plenty of space to install pretty much everything throughout the whole vehicle. Yeah it will get tight if there is alot of equipment, but I would rather be in that if I was to be in a wreck than any of this other crap they have come out with. At least its on a full frame. The Dodge isn't that bad to add some stuff too, but you can't pile the equipment in like a vic. The dodge looks better and handles great as a cop car, but it's still a unibody disposable car. They are just joining Dodge and Chevy in the el cheapo arena. It's like they ripped off an Impala and Honda Accord and called it their own. By the way if anyone has installed things in any of these vehicles you would know that you cannot tear up trim in a vic, but any Chevy or Dodges can shatter on you if you look at it wrong. I also agree with just go to the Dodge if there is a choice. I actually just installed some equipment in a Taurus just like this, but of coarse it was the civilian version. It was a real PITA. Maybe they will make it installer friendly and I won't be as disappointed to go to work, but I feel sorry for the cops that have to drive them daily and depend on them. Sorry if that was scattered….just had to vent that.

Wow Ford what were you thinking? What a pos. I The cv is what my dept has been running for years and they are by far the best police vehicle made. Mt department also has a couple of chargers and they are just not as comfortable as the cv. the Impala is fine if you dont need to go over 95 mph. I guess we will be looking to the new caprice and to the charger. i personally own a charger dont get me wrong they are great as a personal car but as a squad i perfer the crown vic For le rear wheel drive is a must ford knows this but i guess some engineers in a office thought different. I guess the new police vehicle of choice is going to be the charger and the caprice when it come out. SOOOOO disappointing

  • Crazydoodles

Are all of you guys crazy. The reason the CV's aren't being made is not Ford's fault, it's the Government's. The whole fuel tank issue that it can't be behind the rear tire like all CV's are. Instead of spending more money on fixing the tank issue they brought it to the Taurus. Ohh by the way the police package will be rear wheel drive.

  • asupporterofFI

All of you are idiots, the cv is a pos when it comes to police chases and running radar, the charge is good for chases and radar which is great but mechanic wise they suck. This new FI will be about the same size as the charger. but more fuel efficient and will be ,ade in the US thats a great reason to buy it all in its self is it will help the local economy but with a V6 turbo the gas mileage will be better and there a lot more durable than dodges anyway. these have better crash ratings and most fords last londer anyway. this is not to small it is the perfect TP car and RP car.

Taurus is one of the worst cars out there, The Charger is even worse. I own a repair shop and make lots of money working on them, They weak unibody front wheel drive cars. Cheaper to make. The Crown vic is a well built strong car, It is well balanced and does not lack for power even though it is a big car. I was a Ford tech for a long time and have owned two crown vics with very high milage. I would still own the first one if my wife hadnt wrecked it. highway speed rearended a Ranger no damage to her. someone bought it and is driving it now. I also worked for the CHP for awhile, they beat those cars, curbs are cosiderd turn around ramps. I told an officer one day to let me know when he jumps a curb to go after someone to let me know so we could check the car for damage his reply “you would have to do that every day”. No way a taurus, or charger or any of the other cheaper to build cars would stand up to this. Crown Vic is also way more dependable. Dumb move Ford. I may have to find another make to buy next time
