Bob Lutz’s proudest achievement is the Chevrolet Volt

Yesterday, General Motors confirmed that Vice Chairman Bob Lutz will officially retire on May 1. Why does Bob Lutz want to retire?

In a statement, Lutz said:

“I can confidently say that the job I came here to do more than nine years ago is now complete ““ the team I have been fortunate to lead has far exceeded my expectations,” Lutz said. “Our product lineup is as strong as it has been in GM”s history. The perception of our products and brands is beginning to catch up with reality.

When asked by Automotive News which project he’s most proud of, Bob Lutz said:

“If you want to point to an individual project that I am particularly proud to have been a leading advocate of — if not the originator — that would be the Chevy Volt. At the time when electric anything was a dirty word at General Motors after the EV1 financial disaster, the Volt was hard to get going and hard to get approved.”
