Next-generation Ford Focus RS may come to the United States

Want the Ford Focus RS in the United States? Yes, so do we. Well, be patient because the next-generation Focus RS might very well be on its way to the stateside.

While Ford executive Derrick Kuzak was heading the development of the 2000 Ford Focus, Jost Capito was in charge of transforming the compact hatch into Europe”s hot Focus RS. Now that Kuzak is responsible for all of Ford’s global products, he has called on Capito to oversee performance vehicles for all markets as the director of global performance vehicles and motorsport business. Capito will now be responsible for aligning America”s SVT, Europe”s Team RS, and Australia”s FPV, all while establishing performance vehicles that can be sold on a global basis.

In a recent interview with Automobile, when asked whether we’ll see the next-generation Ford Focus RS in the U.S., Capito said:

When you see the global vehicle lines, they offer the opportunity of global performance vehicles. The two generations of Focus we”ve had so far [internationally] were great bases for performance vehicles. The new Focus is the same, so there”s no reason if there”s one in Europe, it wouldn”t be here.

It was recently reported that the next-generation Ford Focus RS will drop the current 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo for a new 2.0L 4-cylinder EcoBoost direct-injection that will produce close to 300-hp.

Keep those fingers crossed.
