According to Ralph Fisco, Toyota Financial’s national remarketing manager, 85 percent of nearly 42,000 vehicles that were affected by the recall and parked at auctions when Toyota suspended sales last month have been repaired or sold or are on sale.
Fisco said that Toyota dealerships first repaired vehicles owned by customers, before repairing unsold vehicles on lots or the used vehicles at nearby auctions. He said that most technicians worked nights and weekends to finish the repairs.
Fisco said he expects all of the vehicles at auctions to be repaired by the middle of next week. Remaining vehicles that haven’t been repaired are in the Northeast, where bad weather caused a halt in repair efforts.
