Report: GM considering four-door-coupe on Cruze platform and SS variant

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is ready to take on the compact sedan segment in the third-quarter of 2010, however, General Motors also has some other things up its sleeve for the Delta compact platform that the Cruze is based on.

According to a report by Motor Trend, Chevrolet is looking to add a radical four-door-coupe on the same platform as the Cruze. The model would retain the Cruze’s wheelbase but would sacrifice some back seat head-room for a more expressive design. The idea behind the model is to get a higher-profit margin from a relatively inexpensive platform. Pricing wise, the Cruze-based four-door-coupe could cost you somewhere near the price tag of the Chevrolet Camaro.

Also under consideration is an SS version of the Cruze. The model is likely to use the same 2.0L Ecotec turbocharged 4-cylinder engine making 260-hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Yeah, we’ll file this under rumor for now.
