While Chevrolet still works on getting the Camaro Z28 to the market, Ford is going to upgrade its Shelby GT500 Mustang on Monday to stay ahead of the game.
According to documents obtained by The Detroit News, the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 will be powered by Ford’s 5.4L V8 with an extra 10 horses for a total of 550-hp. The 2011 model will also feature a weight-saving aluminum engine block that should provide better handling and a slight bump in fuel economy.
Also new for the 2011 model will be an SVT tuning package with a special gear shift knob, a different paint scheme, unique striping and a spoiler with Gurney flap. Performance wise the SVT package will add a new limited-slip rear axle, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear painted forged aluminum wheels, upgraded front and rear springs and rear shocks.
Ford will also add the glass roof option and two new colors (Race Red and Ingot Silver Metallic) to the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500.
We’ll have the full details for you Monday.
