Mitsubishi Motors North America is currently inviting agencies to pitch its $200 million advertising account as their current agency is expected to surrender the business without resistance. Select Resources International of Santa Monica, Calif is heading the search.
In 2008, Mitsubishi surprised the advertising industry when it dropped Omnicom Group’s BBDO West for El Segundo’s Traffic.
Mitsubishi’s U.S. sales plunged by 45% in 2009 after a 26% drop in 2008. All models however, have shown sales increases going into 2010, December having shown a 50% sales increase over November.
“The improvement in December sales validates our renewed strategies and tactics,” said Shinichi Kurihara, president-CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, in a statement. “The input provided by our dealers’ National Advisory Board has been instrumental in guiding our revised sales plans and actions, and will continue to do so as we collaborate to extend this sales momentum.”
