Over the weekend, I had a little debate with a friend on why Buick’s have gotten better and should be more attractive to the younger crowd. However, I couldn’t seem to get the image of very old people driving the same car he would if he were to buy a Buick.

As reported earlier this morning, Buick’s new boss Brian Sweeney, is looking for ways to attract younger buyers to Buick vehicles. Currently, the average age of a Buick shopper is 70 while the average age of a U.S. car buyer is 52. However, a third of the buyers of the 2010 LaCrosse (see our review here) are 55 or younger.

Next year, Buick will add the 2011 Buick Regal sedan, of which a high-performance GS version is expected to debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show next month.

With that in mind, and if you’re between the ages of 20-40, would you buy a Buick LaCrosse, Enclave or Regal.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below and give Sweeney Todd some tips on how he can attract younger buyers to Buick.

I honestly checked out the 2010 LaCrosse and was VERY impressed with the car. I'm currently 29 – however, if I was 35+ the LaCrosse is def the car I would buy over others in the segment.

  • ichibon

    NO. I'm 29

  • Ken

not a bad car. it just needs a little more attitude in the front end. tweak it a bit and you have a real competitor for the accord and others. Same thing with the Volt. The front end ( and back end) on the Opel Ampera is so much better…

    No… Im 29 and drive an M5…

Buick will definitely attract younger buyers w/ their latest vehicles as I am sure the looks & sportiness will also turn off the older generations.

This will all take time, much like Hyundai still trying to prove that they don't make crap anymore.

Maybe the question should be phrased: If you don't currently own a GM vehicle and/or are not a GM employee, would you buy a Buick?

My estimation is that the answer would be: no.

  • BigFTHunterHJS42

im 18 and i can personally say i would definitely drive the regal gs or enclave they are niceee

  • mr g

Though they look nice and are far better than previous Buicks, it doesn't make me want to buy a Buick or spark my interest to go test drive one.

This is the main reason why I have always said GM should have gotten rid of Buick and kept Saturn.

Granted that GM sells a lot of its SUV (cannot remember the name now). However the Saturn Outlook could have 'tricked out' to feel luxury.

  • JimbyJim

Well, I'm 24 and I would consider a Buick. However, the problem is that they are expensive, and for the price of a brand new Buick, I can get a brand new Camaro.

I've owned a LeSabre before, and it was a rock solid car. I'd look at a Buick before a Cadillac though…

But honestly, if I'm going to fork over the dough – I am going to go for performance over luxury every time. Now maybe if I needed comfort as a necessity, then my choice would be different.

  • hornedfrog09

I'm 23, not 53. I agree with the article from a few days back that Buick is not attracting me as their potential customer but rather my parents. If I were my Dad, I would buy a LaCrosse or Regal over a Toyota Avalon or Camry any day of the week.

What do you guys think about rebadging Buick as Opel in the United States. Do you think it will change it being seen as a luxury brand?

I'm 22 and have three Mercedes products–so no I would not purchase one. The brand now has to prove itself and knowing that these are re-badged Opel products does not help that image movement, in my opinion.

I would consider the Regal GS (OPC), but not the plain Regal. They neutered the car too much for my taste. The exhaust, rims, and fender are what gave the car style. I am 32 years old and have driven GM cars since I was 16. I am having trouble finding aggressive cars that fit my personality now. Currently, I drive a Hummer H3. I am looking toward my next car and would like a sports sedan but you killed off Pontiac, a CTS with Nav and sunroof cost $51,000, and Chevy/Buick offer no such cars. It's like you are pushing me to buy a BMW.

I like what GM is doing with Buick. I think they should allow Buick to compete with Cadillac somewhat. Create a Pontiac line of Buick cars, Soltice,Regal GS,G8. Add the Lacrosse, Enclave and Invicta concept to the full line up and Buick is relavent again. GM is completely losing the 25-40 market which will only create more problems once they solve their current problems.
Overall I would like GM to:
Let Chevy compete with Honda and Toyota, offer a full line-up of cars. Move the Corvette to Cadillac(I know blasphemy) to offer distinct of brand. Chevy right now has and Aveo and Corvette at the same dealership? WTF? Cut Tahoe, and Silverado from Chevy.
Make GMC pick-up trucks more aggresive looking. Sell all trucks through GMC (no rebadging, no crossover). Maybe even steal some of the Hummer cues and use them in GMC.
Cadillac is doing well with their line-up, just add the Corvette to replace the XLR. Create a sub-CTS, but make it compete with the Regal GS. A real performance car to compete with the 3 series (no Cateras please). Use the Cadillac Sixteen as the design for the XTS flagship car. Let the Converj be the second generation CTS Coupe. (Why did GM show the Coupe, then tease us with the Converj? I didn't want the Coupe after I saw the Converj. Don't worry about the electric engine just come out with the Converj. All the cars can have electric options later.
Buick should use some of the popular Pontiac designs(Solstice and G8). Come out with the Regal GS First, THEN come out with a neutered version. Lacrosse should be flagship car for Buick. Please use Cadillac leather instead of the stuff you are using now, and re-tuned the engine to get over 300hp. Next, develop the Invicta model. The 2-door model could sell for 50-60K, more if you can put gull-wing doors on it. Get better wood grain in the Enclave, it looks so cheap for such a nice car. Think Cadillac dark wood grain.

Lastly, GM needs to invest in rims. The rims that GM is putting on their cars are pathetic. Aggressive rims with Large tires like on their concept models. The CTS Coupe/Lacrosse,SRX,Regal are examples of neutered rims.

My dad worked for GM for 32 years, sometime I wish I could talk to the heads of GM and give them perspective to what buyers of different age ranges are looking for.

    No, I drive a V16 Vantage.

  • GMfan87

I'd consider a GS but thats about it, i'm not in the market for a sedan at all though. so it's kind of a moot point. where i in the respective markets i'd choose an equinox over the enclave and a malibu over the regal. for the mid-sized sedan i'd definitely take a lacrosse

  • LJSearles

    I wouldn't buy a Buick if i was between the age 0 to 140.

I am a 38 year old male and would buy the new regal, upon arrival, in a heart beat. I believe it is a beautiful car that is based on a great vehicle. One thing that I would hope for is a manual transmission. I know that seems like alot to ask for from a buick, but the car it is based on is offered with a manual transmission. Also a hot rod gs version would be icing on the cake. Buicks have always been great cars. Even in the dreadful 80's and 90's when, in my opinion GM was building their worst cars, Buick still managed to build good cars. So when the regal comes out, I will trade in my nissan family sedan and buy one! My only gripe is with their website; especially the “build your own” section. Can GM get with the future and design a more appealing website?

  • FThorn

44 year old, male. Sure, I would buy a Buick. The La Crosse is great looking.
But for all the cars I would buy, I likely will not buy any of them. New cars are pricey.

(18 years old) I would also consider the Regal GS (OPC), because it is sporty and it looks professional.

  • James0923

No i would not, its and Ugly car, Plus the USA instead of paying the upper management more money then to worry and building a better car they worry about now…

They killed Saab a car company that had the technology, i think GM cars are plastic made cheap and bad on the crash impact, we live and a country that has so much money and not worry about safety, Volkswagen, Volvo and they care about safety and gas milage, why can GM do the same..

I'll tell you why they DONT”"

  • BlakeyB

Hell yes I would (29 year old male).

Our new masters (the Chinese) love this car over there. Have you not seen the YouTube video of the girl literally driving off from the showroom in it? GM has bent over backwards making this a great car for the Chinese…it's nice we get a try at what they drool over. However it doesn't look like we'll get all the goodies that come with this model over there, namely proximity entry/start. Pity.
