2010 Saab 9-3X

According cross-shopping data from AutoTrader.com, if Saab is wound down by General Motors Company, BMW and Audi may be winners. The findings by the website show that 33 percent of Saab shoppers also looked at BMW and Audi vehicles while researching and comparing new and used vehicles on AutoTrader.com.

“The top four brands Saab shoppers also looked at while on our site were all European, showing some preference for European styling and handling among Saab shoppers,” said AutoTrader.com President and CEO Chip Perry. “As the Saab brand is shut down, it is likely many of those buyers will gravitate to those other European brands, although our shopper activity on AutoTrader.com shows Saab buyers are also interested in some American and Japanese brands.”

What is left of Saab sales in the US that is worth making an effort for?

GM killed the sales potential of Saab years ago.

Like many others, have not bought a new Saab in a few years as we “patiently” waited on promised new product. The 9-4x and 9-1 were eagerly desired at my home, but not available. The new 9-5 would also have found a willing audience once available, but come on, who wanted to buy the old flagship automobile that was 10 years overdue for an upgrade? So, no product and no promotion from GM, who then complains about no sales? What did they expect?

GM purposely hobbled Saab, and used it as their whipping boy to dump bad assets off their ledger. Now GM disingenuously engages in “sales talks” as they seek to scuttle the entire company because they do not want the competition. But seriously, if you are a Saab buyer, then a Chevy, GMC, Buick, or even Cadillac never was (and never will be) going in your driveway.

Yes, BMW and Audi seem the most likely options, but they do come at a premium and are a bit ubiquitous… Hmm… When is Fiat/Alfa Romeo coming to North America again?

Ah yes Fiat and Alfa Romeo. but as long as we're fantasizing, what about Peugeot and Citroen? I presently own a 2006 Saab Convertible, this is my third Saab. I've also owned a Saab 900 Sedan in gun metal grey with a burgundy leather interior on which I lost reverse because it was a manual that required you to put the car in reverse in order to release the key from the ignition at a 133,000 miles and a Saab 9000 in black with a tan cloth interior the hatchback model that was also a Lancia Thema body, I think or so I read somewhere whose head gasket cracked and the car overheated on Rt 9 in Howell, New Jersey and my sister up in Goshen had the turbo model which blew up at 98,000 miles. So I can see why Saab's having problems, however before owning Saabs I owned four Peugeots, the 505 sedan black 1983, the 405 MI 16 5-speed in silver which I totaled in New Hope on River rd at the 90 Degree turn by Philips Mill Inn, the rusty green 504 sedan, and the 304 gold sedan which I absolutely loved, as well as a Renault Le Car when I lived in Boston and a green Renault Caravelle 1965 Convertible. So for me the car I would most liked to buy if Saab dies is not a Fiat or an Alfa Romeo but a brand new Peugeot!
