2011 Kia Forte Koup

The 2010 Kia Forte Koup is currently offered in two different trim-levels including the EX and SX. The Forte Koup EX is powered by a 156-hp 2.0L 4-cylinder, while the SX is powered by a 173-hp 2.4L 4-cylinder. Now what if you added a turbocharger to either- you’d have a really fun Korean Koup or coupe, or whatever you want to call it.

According to Tom Loveless, vice president of sales for Kia Motors America, a turbocharged engine may find its way under the hood of the 2012 Kia Forte Koup.

In an Automotive News article about Kia adding Saturn dealerships to its network on the East Coast, Tom Loveless briefly mentions turbocharging “is a natural extension if it makes financial sense.”

The folks over at Edmunds are guessing that the engine may be the same turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder scheduled for the Hyundai Sonata in the 2012 model year. In the Sonata, that engine will produce upwards of 250-hp while returning 35 mpg on the highway.

Sounds like fun.
