Bill Ford at the National Summit

FoMoCo’s Chairman Bill Ford Jr. met with President Barack Obama today during his visit to Washington to deliver an action list from the National Summit on the economy from June. Ford said that he thanked Obama for stepping in to save General Motors and Chrysler from liquidation.

He said that said Obama had stabilized not just GM and Chrysler but auto suppliers as well.

“He was obviously interested in how the industry was going and I complimented him on how he handled the industry,” Ford said.

He said that his meeting with the President lasted less than 15 minutes – not that that really matters.

Why says stuff like that!? Deep down, he wants Ford to be the ONLY domestic manufacturer. I know I would if I were running a corporation. Just too disingenuous. Don't say if you did not mean it.

This confirms my thoughts about Bill Ford during the last 10 years. He's a liberal who's more concerned with with bogus environmental issues and government intervention than the free market principles that made America and his company great. These high profile leaders like Ford should tell the US government that they are not permitted by the Constitution to take control of private industry. Chrysler and GM were too gutless to go into bankruptcy so Obama took hundred of billions from the taxpayers to put off bankruptcy .. for what, several months? Now Chrysler and GM are getting what we'll get if this unnecessary health care bill passes … a large taste of more government meddling and control in their business/lives. I'm a car guy and I'm saddened to see this government takeover and corporate incompetence from GM, Chrysler, and Bill Ford.

Their is nothing liberal or conservative in dealing with US administrations, if McCain was president you'd have heard the same praise.

Except that most of his suppliers would have gone bankrupt and ceased production if GM and Chrysler also stopped buying. That would leave Ford with no new parts from which to build their current production vehicles. What would you have him do? Cease production for 6 months while they sourced their parts entirely from the Japanese and Korean supply base?

You're right there. McCain would be no better.
