2001 Honda Civic

In an effort to get to know our visitors better, we decided to start a feature called Question of the Day. Today’s question – what was your first car and do you miss it?

To start it off, I’ll tell you about my first car. It was a silver 2001 Honda Civic Sedan – a hand-me-down after my sister moved out. Unfortunately, I don’t miss the car at all (if it was manual – I may have had more respect for it). After college I purchased a 2006 BMW 3-Series and now, as an editor of egmCarTech, I get to drive some of the best cars in the world.

Either way, let us know about your first car in the comments section after the jump.

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse – I miss the thing like crazy. I fell in love with it even more when The Fast and The Furious came out.

My 87 Toyota Supra has left a hole in my heart. Even though I got a G35 Coupe, I'll always think about my first rear-wheel drive import sports coupe. *tear* I've hated Toyota ever since they discontinued it.

Mine was a 1994 Honda Prelude Si. I actually still have her! She's sitting pretty in my garage. =]

1977 Dodge Aspen 4 door, Canary Yellow with a 318, oh I miss that car!

My first(may she rest in peace) was a 1989 fire red Pontiac Grand Am. Darn thing would stall out on the highway after I got it into overdrive(cylanoid mishap).

1993 Honda Accord lx 4 door in maroon. had it from 200,000miles till 241,000 miles then traded it in for a 2008 Pontiac G5. It was in great condition and ran well and i miss it.

Can we post pics? I had a 1969 VF Valiant Safari station wagon.

Unfortunately we don't have the ability to post pics in the comments – we should get on that actually. Thanks for the idea.

A dark brown 1980 Pinto with a trunk and an automatic. This was the last year for the Pinto, and the exploding gas tank issue was fixed. It was rear wheel drive which made it fun to drive in Detroit snow. I drove the car in 1986 when I was 16, and I was glad to have it.

Whoa, nostalgia. My first vehicle was an 1984 VW Rabbit. Wanted the GTI version but the first job right out of college didn't pay enough to afford the sporty car, rent, food and school loan.

My first car was a used 1967 Mustang Fastback purchased in 1972, sadly with a six cylinder motor. It to date is the worst car I have ever owned. That car is why I will never purchase a Ford anything. It was a long time ago but, I still have my memories.

  • JimbyJim

1997 Buick Lesabre. It was awesome!

My first car is a 2nd-hand 2003 Chevrolet Lumina SS, or known as the Holden Commodore SS in Australia. When I first got it, it had around 100,000 kilometers, and there were lots of thing that needed fixing. However, the 5.7-liter LS1 V8 was fully working, and usually raced some punks in their ricers! I really do miss it right now, and wish I could own a brand new one someday.

A Mars Red (aka orange) '84 VW Scirocco purchased in 1991. Sure it was a Rabbit in disguise, but even with just 90hp it was a hoot to drive, and its relative rareness gave me a feeling of individuality. I was saddened to see the teenage girl who bought it from me 3 years later managed to wreck it within 2 months after taking possession. I then wanted to 'rescue' it from her, but unfortunately as a working college student I had virtually no disposable income with which to do so. Now if only VW would bring the NEW Scirocco overseas.

  • Emro

1980 Ford Fairmont… 2-door, blue, inline-6, 3-spd auto, vinyl bench seat and RWD… best winter car ever!! The only thing i miss about it is the RWD fun in the snow…

  • Bill

1971 VW Bug. Simple and economical to repair, reliable to operate. Bad rust problem. I performed my first engine swap on this car.

I'm not in a position to drive some of the best cars in the world. Neither do I get sentimental about my old cars. They served their purpose and we all move on. At the time, I imagined restoring the car, but the body rot made that idea impractical.

2005 VW Polo – Still have her. Looking to replace it in 2010. Evokes absolutely no emotion, besides that there is nothing to criticize about this little car!

  • Allen

1997 Chevrolet Blazer. A terrible, terrible car. There were days when I got in and said “I'm taking the bus to school today.” It was that bad.

  • GMfan87

    hehe 98 lexus es300….it was a good hand-me-down

  • zermatt

My first few cars out of college were company cars….

When I bought my first car, it was a used 1975 jade green BMW 2002. I made modifications to the suspension and added a Weber carburetor to improve performance. It became a very fun autocross and track day car.

I like warranties and so it was the last used car I even owned.

  • carramrod

'92 YJ Jeep Wrangler with a 5-speed. The weak 4-cyl barely moved that brick, and the windshield leaked and soaked my ankles every time it rained. It's still in the family though, so hopefully I'll do an engine swap someday down the road. It was a terrible only car, but a great weekend car.
