In order to make its Ram truck band big and profitable, Chrysler Group LLC will introduce commercial vans and potentially big rigs alongside its full-size pickups, reports The Detroit News. As a part of his five year business plan, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne’s first move was splitting the Dodge brand into two separate brands – one for passenger cars and one for trucks.

Ram’s goal now is to boost global truck sales from 280,000 today to 415,000 in 2014, with most of them coming from the North American market.

Fred Diaz, Ram brand chief, recently said that the growth will come from product improvements, more advertising and by adding new commercial vans to the Ram lineup.

Ram plans on introducing two new commercial vans in the U.S. by 2012. The Fiat SpA partnership will play a huge role in the move since the Italian automaker has commercial vans that can be imported quickly.

If that is the case, what is the point of having Dodge? I thought Dodge carries the commercial vans etc.

WHY CAN'T CHRYSLER BUILD THEIR OWN VAN? There was nothing wrong with the American B-Series Dodge Ram Vans. When is Chrysler going to make it's own full size truck based van by itself again? It's stupid to bring over a Fiat and call it a Ram van. It's not even based on the RAM truck like the old American vans were. *FAIL*

@Shawnerr. Yeah, I thought I read that some of Dodge's vehicles were actually Fiat models. They replaced the Sprinter I think.

Though I like Fiat in general, I must admit.
