2009 LA: Lexus LF-Ch Concept

  • Key Competitors: Audi A3, BMW 1-Series.
  • Power: Gasoline/electric hybrid. Reports suggest that the production version will be powered by the 187-hp from a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine found in the Lexus HS 250h hybrid.
  • Production: Nothing officially confirmed.

Hoping to gauge some feedback from consumers, today Lexus held the North American debut of the Lexus LF-Ch Concept that made its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this year.

Recent reports suggest that if Lexus receives a positive reaction from show goers, it may produce a compact Lexus model based on the LF-Ch by 2012 or earlier. However, don’t expect it to be something affordable. Executives at Lexus said that they are “not going to build a smaller vehicle with all that technology (found in the likes of a top-line LS sedan) and knock the price down.”

There is no word on whether the production model will get a hybrid or gasoline only powertrain or both.

Let us know what your thoughts are on the Lexus LF-Ch Concept. Should Lexus produce a compact model or not?

As you may expected, this Lexus LF-A has under the hood a monster 4.8 liter V10 engine that can develop up to an amazing power of 560 horsepower at 9,000 RPM and a torque of 354 lb-ft between 3,700 RPM and the redline

That's nice and all but if it's going to cost more than a BMW/MB/Audi no one will buy it! Lexus will probably mess up and make the car in front-wheel drive guise. If not that the demeanor will be too-soft to have any sporting intentions..
