Cadillac Escalade Platinum

It was rumored last year that GM’s full-size SUVs and pickups will move from a body-on-frame to a unibody construction. Well, seems like that rumor can now be laid to rest. Cosma International, a division of Magna International, announced today that it will supply the Detroit automaker with frame assembly for its next-generation full-size light duty-pickups and SUVs.

Magna spokesperson Scott Worden said that both the pickups and SUVs will continue to be body-on-frame.

“Receiving this third-generation frame business from GM is a real testament to our ability to deliver on key areas including cost and quality,” said Horst Prelog, President, Cosma International. “GM is a long-term valued customer of ours and we look forward to continuing our partnership with them.”

Cosma will continue production the frames at its Thomas, Ontario and Saltillo, Mexico locations.

I always like the redesigned Escalade. It could compete against the likes of Mercedes and Lexus. However, I get turned off when the engine is fired. It sounds like a cheap truck. Like 007 in a tuxedo with a redneck accent. LOL.

Right, so, while other really good manufacturers seem to be building their large SUVs to still have incredible offroad abilities, have great onroad and are unibody to save weight, increase fuel economy GM is forging ahead with their unique blend of ye olde ideas and tech. Leaf springs anyone?
