2011 Chevrolet Volt

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid is scheduled to make its market launch in Nov. of 2010. It’s no wonder that engineers working on the Volt are putting in hours even on their days off.

“They’re testing, measuring and evaluating what is arguably the most important vehicle in General Motors Co.’s history,” reports the Detroit News. “They take their work home with them, literally, commuting in the vehicles, strapping baby seats in the back or picking up groceries.”

“We’ve been through three levels of hardware in two years,” said Alex Cattelan, the Chevy Volt’s chief powertrain engineer. “The groups working on the second generation and third generation versions are still providing more information to us.”

Cattelan says that he has no doubt that the Volt will be ready for its scheduled launch in late 2010. At the 2009 LA Auto Show next month, GM will announce plans for initial retail markets where the plug-in hybrid vehicle will be sold.

Ah, the tale of the Chevrolet Vapor!!! Atta boy, GM keep that PR machine pumping!!!!

It is clear that GM made a colossal blunder in talking about the Vapor so early in its development. How does a company continue to maintain interest in a car that won't be offered for years? How will GM keep buyers away from cars that are soon to be in production or are already in production?

    It is easy: SAY ANYTHING.

My favorite was the EPA mpg rating fiasco. Have the PR machine come up with some asinine projection that the EPA cannot possibly support and hope the EPA doesn't say anything. Oops.

I would hope that the Vapor team is working weekends to get the car in production. Unless this is the first time that GM has ever had to burn the candle at both ends, this is to be expected and it NOT news. What next in the non-news world of the Vapor- the Vapor team is eating pizza at lunch?

In other Vapor news: The Vapor team will be taking in a special screening of The Twilight Saga: New Moon!!! They will be watching this special screening in the cafeteria on a projector that has been rented for this important event. The Vapor team is especially excited as they have left over pizza from lunch and will be allowed to buy their own microwave popcorn. Managing Project Engineer, Bob Roberts said that this event is critical to the team because “the werewolves are so cool and we like to pretend we are werewolves and we really don't like vampires, at all!!!”

Be sure to continue to follow for all of the Vapor updates on egmCarTech.

I've been looking forward to this car for a long time. I can't wait to drive one.

I just don't understand why it has taken so long. It only took Karmen about a year to produce their cars.
