Obama: GM could learn from its Chinese operations

President Barack Obama’s trip to Asia included a massive motorcade in Beijing said to be 71 vehicles long. While touring the Great Wall and Forbidden City, Obama said that General Motors “can learn from their operations” in China “in terms of increasing sales back in the United States.”

Obama was reported to be speaking with Shanghai Communist Party secretary Yu Zhengsheng on what Yu called the “fantastic performance” by General Motors in China.

GM and its Chinese partners sold more than 1.5 million units and saw the company’s sales increase 60 percent in the first 10 months of 2009. In October, General Motors more than doubled its sales in China to 166,911 vehicles. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, a total of 946,000 were sold in October.

    Well because China wants everything American (Buick is a hot ticket item over there). If he is talking about their own automotive landscape, then I am agree with Emma. The Chinese has no concept of intellectual property rights. They literally copy someone else's design by placing their emblem on. Let not even go into lead paint etc.

    However what most Americans don't know is that the majority of Chinese are very poor. A small percentage of them are filthy rich because of the connection with the Communist Party. And again let not go into human rights and state controlled media.

    So I don't think we should adopt any of their idea. Oh, lest me forget that his admin loves socialism. LOL.

    Sorry John, not all of the rich or even the massive middle class are that way due to Communist Party links. YES their human rights record is atrocious and the rights of the individual are by and large ignored while the environment rates a very poor second HOWEVER they are extremely shrewd business people, are innovative and seem to hold most of the chips in global economics currently.
