At the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi said that it will offer a new small crossover called the Outlander Sport in the United States starting fall of 2010.

Speaking to Automotive News, John Koenig said that the Outlander Sport will get a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine and will be offered with front-wheel and all-wheel-drive options.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is based on the Concept cX that was first shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The production model will be based on the platform of the Lancer sedan.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will make its production debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and will go on sale in Japan in February.
