First Pre-Production Chevrolet Volt

The final unit of the pre-production Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid rolled off General Motors test-assembly facility in Warren on Friday. The next stop for the pre-production units is the Detroit automaker’s Milford proving ground and hot weather testing to maker sure the electric powertrain can function at high temperatures.

“This is the same kind of work we do on any new car, but it”s got a different purpose,” said Keith Brown, who assembles new vehicles in the preproduction facility. “We want to get off foreign oil. I hope everybody buys the Volt and loves it, and we can push the industry in that direction.”

The Chevrolet Volt is scheduled to hit U.S. dealerships in November 2010.

It was reported earlier this morning that GM has started preparing its Flint facility to build 4-cylinder engines for the production Volt.

JasonQ did you purchase a Volt? – Omar

Keith Brown, who assembles new vehicles in the preproduction facility said: I hope everybody buys the Volt and loves it.”

What he really wanted to say was: “I hope this crap shoot actually isn't going to turn out as bad as everyone here thinks it will. Management has put all of our eggs in one basket and if this doesn't work I don't think the government will give us any more taxpayer money to survive. I really want to keep my job and I know that my chances of getting a job on the open market are next to none. So I will say just about anything to keep my job and BS unsuspecting consumers into buying a Vapor. I know that GM buyers have lower quality expectations and it my fervent hope that those expectation continue to deteriorate. It would be too much to expect Toyota Nissan and Honda owners to buy a Vapor, but maybe we can sucker Chrysler owners to this car so that Vapor sales don't cannibalize other GM sales. Oh, what am I thinking – we are so screwed.”
