I don't think it's as drastic as they paint it to be. it seems to me like more of a parting of interests. either they really enjoy cars or they don't care at all. for them there's no longer a need to know anything about your car other than you stick the key in the ignition and hit the gas to go. so, i'd attribute it to the advancement of the automobile more than anything else i can see this to a certain degree in my circle of friends…however, i don't have a shortage of enthusiasts in the Y generation either. Kids now have more fun toys to keep them busy (iPods, cellphones, internet ect). Young men of my generation (40+) and older has nothing but to tinker with cars. I am not surprised here.
