Chrysler and Fiat working on new electric-vehicle project

Chrysler 200C EV

It was reported in August that electric-vehicles and lithium-ion battery development are two things that have gone missing from Chrysler since it emerged from bankruptcy. Originally, Chrysler and its ENVI department had planned to have an electric-car in the showrooms by the end of 2010.

Well, it seems like an electric-vehicle project may be back in the product plans under new Italian owner, Fiat SpA. According to The Wall Street Journal, Chrysler is planning a new electric-car in cooperation with Fiat.┬áChrysler’s board member Alfredo Altavilla let the project slip as he was visiting Fiat’s gearbox plant in Verrone, Italy.

There are no technical details available as to what the electric-vehicle will be capable of; nor do we know if Chrysler and Fiat will use an existing model or develop a new dedicated model altogether.

CEO Sergio Marchionne is scheduled to release a five-year business plan for Chrysler on Nov. 4th.
