UK based publication AutoCar reports that McLaren Automotive’s permission application for its MP4-12C assembly plant included plans that showed a shopfloor area given over to a “˜Webasto RHT Sub Assembly.’ What the heck does that mean?
Webasto is known for its subsidiary OASys (Open Air Systems), which is responsible for producing convertible tops and roof modules. Apparently that mean a convertible version of the MP4-12C is in the works.
Sources say that the MP4-12C Convertible will feature a hard-top and will feature lightweight construction. Power will most likely come from the same 3.8L V8 twin-turbo engine producing around 600-hp mated to a 7-speed Seamless Shift dual-clutch gearbox (SSG).
