BMW planning 0-Series based on Mini platform

BMW has always been against offering a front-wheel-drive model or a model based on a Mini platform. Well, it now seems BMW is going against both. According to a report by CAR Magazine, BMW is planning a Mini based “0-Series,” which could go on sale as early as 2013.
Known internally as the UKL1 (Untere Kompaktklasse), the 0-Series will be a direct competitor to the Audi A1 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Engine choices will include a new 3 and 4-cylinder engine.
BMW will offer at least three different body styles including a three-door hatchback, a five-door hatchback and a two-seat roadster. Production is expected to take place at BMW’s Oxford plant.
