Toyota to sell dedicated hybrid sedan based on Lexus HS 250h

Toyota will be selling its first dedicated hybrid sedan, a sibling to the Lexus HS 250h that will get a more powerful engine than the brand’s most popular hybrid – the Prius. Known as the Toyota Sai, the model will go on sale in Japan on October 20. The Sai will be the second model marketed as a hybrid-only offering under Toyota after the Prius, reports Automotive News.
Dealers in Japan said that the car will share the same platform and hybrid drivetrain as the Lexus HS 250h – a 2.4L gasoline engine. The exterior design of the car will differ from the HS 250h, the dealer said.
No word on whether the model will make it to the United States. The Lexus HS 250h went on sale in the U.S. in mid-September with prices starting at $34,200.
