2009 Audi RS6

The next-generation Audi RS6 is almost ready and will make its debut early next year. However, sources told German publication AutoBlid that Audi will be dropping the 5.2L V10 for a smaller V8 and will add two tubrochargers.

The current Audi RS6 Avant produces a total of 580-hp with a maximum torque of 479 lb-ft from its twin-turbocharged V10. 0 to 62 mph comes in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

It was recently reported that the next-generation BMW M5 will be powered by the 4.4L twin-turbo V8 found under the hood of the new BMW X6 M and the BMW X5 M. Sources say that the M5 will be uprated to produce 600-hp.

The whole point of the car was the V10! If I was in the market for such a thing I wouldn't get it if there was only a V8. V10 or W12 but NOT a V8, anyone can have one of those. :-)

I usually agree with Audi's decisions (like a downsized, but faster S4), but replacing a twin-turbo V10 for a twin-turbo V8 in their fastest sedan does not seem to predict anything good IMHO.
