2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost

Now that we have a baby Phantom known as the Rolls-Royce Ghost, what is up next for the British car company? According to a report by AutoExpress, Rolls-Royce is now working on an electric-version of the Phantom.

A spokesman for the brand said that the company is considering a battery-powered Phantom and that the excess weight of a lithium-ion battery is the least of its concern since the Phantom already weighs close to three tons with its V12 engine.

The only foreseeable problem remains is the range the electric Phantom would provide in between charges. However, AutoExpress points out that parent BMW may step in and throw in a small engine, like the 1.5L 3-cylinder see in the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept, to provide additional driving range.

Seeing a future Rolls-Royce turning to an electric version. I am happy to see a possibility for a fancy and heavy car run on something other than gas or diesel. It shows progress toward changing over to other options for fuel.
