BREAKING: Mazda2 confirmed for U.S. launch in 2010, U.S.-spec model coming to LA in Dec.
Mazda has confirmed that it will be bringing its popular Mazda2 to the United States in fall of 2010. Mazda told its dealers at a national meeting in Palm Spring, California that the U.S. based Mazda2 will be unveiled at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show in December with a minor facelift.
Sources told Automotive News that the U.S.-spec Mazda2 will also receive an interior upgrade from the Euro edition, which has been criticized for feel and look.
Based on the Ford Fiesta, the Mazda2 will compete with the Fiesta itself along with the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit and the Chevrolet Aveo.
The current version of the Mazda2 was introduced in Europe and Japan in 2007 and received the 2008 World Car of the Year award. In Japan, the car is known as the Demio.
