FoMoCo has announced that its mid-size 2010 Ford Fusion has set another monthly sales record for the model for the fifth consecutive month during August. It said that average transaction prices have been increasing. The Ford Fusion, which competes with the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord in one of the largest segments in the U.S., sold a total of 102,756 units through July. Toyota Camry and Honda Accord sales totaled 184,216 and 160,817 respectively.

“It’s a very tough segment to be in. It’s been dominated by the imports over the last several years,” Ford’s global small and medium car group marketing manager, Chantel Lenard, told Reuters. “We are starting to break through and break that grip the imports have had on that segment.”

Both the Camry and the Accord came in on the top 10 cars sold under the Cash for Clunkers incentive. While Ford reported strong sales of the Fusion under the program, the model did not make the top 10 list.

Lenard said that more than half of the 2010 Fusions models sold so far have been in the top-end SEL, Sport or Hybrid versions.

I wonder how many Ford Fusion Hybrids have been sold for the 2010 Model year because 41 mpg is pretty outstanding for a sedan of that size

I drove a Fusion hybrid at a special for even in July and it was eerily quiet and smooth riding - not sporty. It is a nicely sized vehicle and looks better than the Camry. I think it is a toss up with the Accord.

    "toss up with the Accord."

I have to disagree, I find the Accord Sedan to be very boring and kind of ugly on the outside, on the inside the Accord seems more interesting than the Fusion due to the buttonfest on the center stack. Would like to see the next gen Fusion with a "Taurusish" interior.
