When Toyota’s new 2010 Lexus HS 250h went on sale in Japan in July, the automaker was hoping to sell 500 units in the hybrids first full month of sales. Instead, Toyota received a staggering 10,000 orders for the new dedicated hybrid model for Lexus.

According to a report by Automotive News, booming orders in Japan may cause a pinch in the supply of the HS 250h when it goes on sale in the United States next month.

According to Toyota spokeswoman Monika Saito, customers looking to purchase one in Japan are faced with a 6-month wait, meaning they won’t receive their HS 250h until February.

The 2010 Lexus HS 250h gets an EPA-estimated ratings of 35 mpg city and 34 mpg on the highway for a combined 35 mpg. Pricing in the U.S. will start at $34,200 for the standard model and $36,970 for the Premium model.
