Oshawa mayor criticized for buying a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

For political figures to enjoy high-performance cars without being criticized is very difficult. When President Barack Obama ran for election last year, he dropped his HEMI powered Chrysler 300 for a Ford Escape Hybrid. Well, the mayor of Oshawa, Ontario is about to do the same if he doesn’t stop getting ridiculed for purchasing a new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS.

John Gary’s recent purchase,  a 426-hp Victory Red 2010 Camaro SS with white stripes, has gotten local critics “screaming mad” .

“Our mayor is flaunting this gas-guzzling vehicle all around town,” complains constituent Bill Steele. “Our taxes are the highest in the GTA by far, and I don”t like that I”m paying for part of a sports car that gets 17 miles to the gallon.”

What are your thoughts on this? Should political figures be allowed to have a high-performance sports car or should they all just roll around in a Toyota Prius hybrids?
