We couldn’t think of a better vehicle for the U.S. Border Patrol – the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. While the Department of Energy is giving out billions to find the development of electric-vehicles and plug-in hybrids, the Border Patrol is thinking of something a little more gas-guzzling and a little more powerful than the pickups they drive now.

Sources have told PickupTrucks.com that the Customs and Border Protection division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is seriously considering purchasing at least 10 F-150 SVT Raptors to help catch those that are illegally entering the United States.

Insiders said that the Border Patrol is asking Ford to fit the F-150 SVT Raptor interiors with standard work-truck interiors rather than the standard high-end trim.

Pricing for the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor starts at $38,995 for the 5.4L V8 model and $41,995 6.2L V8 model.

With the taxpayers owning such a big piece of GM you would think that all vehicles would be sourced to GM.

As to the need for this vehicle to keep the boarders safe – if they are going after terrorists then I see a need. Why waste time and money on laborers?

For that matter, why are we wasting so much money on the “war” on drugs, polygamy, prostitution and right turn on red enforcement?

I guess these are all pet projects of some politician.

I think they should just make the “Great Wall of America”. Just one giant wall would be nice…

    Let's see: For *you*, a 3 cylinder Prius. For the government, a 6.2 V8 hot-rod truck. After all, you don't *need* …..
anything the government doesn't decide you do.

The border patrol already uses Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon’s and Hummer H1 Alpha’s; I don't think SVT Raptors are necessary.

If a Prius could climb mountains and transport illegal aliens and contraband, then so much the better. To take yourself and a cup of coffee to work and back everyday on paved roads I doubt most need a gas guzzler. Use common sense about practicality.
