Fiat Barchetta Bertone

It was reported last week that Fiat has made a non-binding offer to buy struggling Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Bertone. According to AutoCar, Fiat has no interest in saving the Bertone name or history.

“We are not interested in the Bertone brand or company, only in the Grugliasco production facility and workforce,” a Fiat spokesman said.

Fiat and Bertone have previously worked together on numerous projects. The latest concept by the two was the Fiat Barchetta Bertone (pictured above) – an open-topped, two-seater sports car that evokes design of Italian racing cars of the 1950s.

Other bidders for Bertone include entrepreneurs Gianmario Rossignolo and Domenico Reviglio, Chinese automaker FAW Group Corp. and an unnamed Spanish group.

Italian bankruptcy court administrators plan to name the winning bidder by the end of the month.

Sell the Bertone brand to the Chinese. Than they can attach it to POS cars just like they have done with MG.

100 years from now people will think that Bertone stood for oddly designed, cheap POSs. Heritage means nothing anymore.
