Compact cars, city cars and mid-sized family sedans dominated European sales in the first half of 2009. The Ford Fiesta, which has sold quite well in Europe, has been in an ongoing battle with the new 2009 Volkswagen Golf in the compact hatchback segment.
According to Jato Dynamics, the six-generation Golf has taken the title as Europe’s top-selling car in the first half of 2009, with a total of 59,628 units sold across Europe. Ford’s Fiesta came in second with a total of 43,338 units sold.
Coming in third was the Peugeot 207 selling 37,361 units, followed by the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and Renault Clio.
