Report: BMW registers ‘Countryman’ name for new Mini Crossover

For a while now, we’ve come to believe that Mini’s new Crossover due out next year will be called the “Crossman.” Right after its debut, its was reported that the “Crossman” name had been ditched and that the “Maxi” name was the leading contender for the Crossover.
Well, cross all that out. According to a report by MotoringFile, BMW AG has officially registered the “Countryman” name for its new four-wheel-drive, four-seater, four-door model. The Countryman name was apparently used in classic Mini days for the long wheelbase version of the Cooper in specific markets.
The production model of Mini’s Crossover will debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motorshow in September. Stay tuned for more updates.
