In a press release earlier this week about the U.S. Bankruptcy Court giving it approval for sale, GM said that it “will change its name to General Motors Company and will continue to operate under GM”s historic corporate and sub brands.”

According to a report by the Associated Press, GM could literally end up changing its logo as it readies itself for a major management and cultural change. Insiders briefed with the plans said that the company is looking to change its background color of its logo from blue to green in an effort to show that it is becoming a leaner and greener company that is focused on fuel-economy and fuel-efficiency.

It is reported that Ed Welburn, GM’s vice president of design, is leading a group that is working on logo and name changes. So for nothing definite has been decided but people familiar with the talks said that changing the square blue and white logo to another color is on the table.

Many companies change their logos once they come out of bankruptcy to shed their old image.

What most companies don't do is to embrace the political agendas of their Overlords in their new logos. Green is the new political stance at GM – say goodbye to auto enthusiast products.

Can't wait to see the Vapor as Chevrolet's new NASCAR entry.

i'm not against changing the logo, i just really hope they dont simply change it to green…welburn and his design team are extremely talented, they need to put those talents to good use and not just cave into satisfying the greens

Well, changing the logo is the typical substance-over-style kind of move that his royal hineyness Overlord Obama will like.
