Fiat 500C

Fiat’s retro-styled 500 minicar has helped the Italian automaker achieve a first: Selling more units of a model outside its home market than inside.

“We sell 54 percent of the 500 outside of Italy, something that has never happened before at Fiat,” Lorenzo Sistino, Fiat brand CEO, told Automotive News Europe.

Of course that number will increase when the Fiat 500 comes to the U.S. in 2011. Sistino declined to comment on Fiat’s expected sales volume in the United States. The Fiat 500 will be the only Fiat-badged model sold in the U.S. as a result of Fiat SpA and Chrysler Group LLC’s partnership.
