It seems like it has been forever since Chrysler has been planning a replacement for the slow-selling Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger. According to Automotive News, Chrysler’s new management is now wrestling with that very decision.
Sources say that Chrysler Group LLC is now planning a replacement based on the Chrysler 200C EV, a concept that made its debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show in January.
If the new management does decide to replace the Sebring and Avenger with a production 200C EV, Chrysler will be offering a rear-wheel-drive entry in a segment dominated front-wheel-drive cars. The 200C EV is built on a smaller LX platform, which is used on the Dodge Challenger, Charger and the Chrysler 300.
While Fiat’s D-Evo platform is also an option, executives are not convinced that the Fiat platform is wide enough for North America. The D-Evo platform will debut in Europe in the 2011 Alfa Romeo 159.
