Hyundai Elantra LPI Hybrid

Hyundai has started taking pre-launch orders for its new Elantra LPI hybrid, which will go on sale in the Korean market on July 7 as the Avante. According to Hyundai Motor America spokesman Dan Bedore, the Korean automaker has no plans to sell the Elantra LPI hybrid in the Unites States.

“No intention of U.S. sales at this point,” Bedore told Inside Line.

Hyundai’s Elantra LPI hybrid is the first world’s first hybrid electric vehicle to be powered by liquefied petroleum gas.

Power will come from a Gamma 1.6L engine that gives the Elantra LPI HEV to return an average fuel-economy of 42 mpg. The engine is mated to CVT transmission.
