Yesterday, Audi released a teaser shot and a sketch of the 2010 Audi A5 Sportback, which will make its world-debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Sales of the Audi A5 Sportback will begin in early 2010.

However, Audi has no plans to bring the A5 Sportback to the stateside. Mainly because the upcoming production version of the Audi Sportback Concept – to be called the A7 – will come here instead.

The Audi A7 will give the German automaker some market to compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS. The A7 will be larger and more luxurious than the A5 Sportback.

Audi has decided that the market for a Sportback is not large enough in the US to support 2 models. Audi's approach matches Mercedes Benz's offering better and I would have to agree with Audi.

VW has a coupe / sedan out there that is based on the Passat. How many coupe / sedans does the American market need?
