U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has granted a request to put a hold on the sale of Chrysler LLC to Fiat SpA. Ginsburg acted at just before the 4 p.m. EDT deadline from a U.S. appeals court in New York was due to expire. That order would have allowed Chrysler to proceed with its sale to Fiat.

Ginsburg’s order made no mention of when briefs in the appeal would have to be filed or whether the Supreme Court would hear the underlying legal challenge of the sale.

As reported earlier this morning, Indiana pension funds and consumer groups had asked the Supreme Court on Sunday to put a halt on the sale of Chrysler as they challenge the deal.

Didn't the Supreme Court heat that Obama is the new sheriff in town and that the rule of law means nothing? That bankruptcy law falls to political favors?

What next – taxpayers will expect repayment from GM & Chrysler?
