The British government said that its newly launched car scrappage program has accounted for more than 35,000 in new car sales. The program was launched about a month ago.
Vehicles more than 10 years old are considered scrap. The British government and the auto industry are sharing the cost for the program, which gives £2000 ($2,898 USD) discount on a new car to buyers who trade in their 10 year old model.
Some lucky scrappage owners found themselves getting into a new Nissan GT-R.
Gordon Brown, Prime Minister, said that the program helps consumers protect jobs by stimulating demand for new vehicles.
The new incentive will run until March 2010.
