I just read in the WSJ that Fiat's offer to GM is without cash.

Why do these companies and countries even entertain these ideas?

I'm guessing that Fiat gets a bunch of government money by getting these dying companies for no cash investment... it may work out for them

I think Marchionne is channeling his inner napoleon

Though it makes a lot of sense, what Fiat has is the small car platforms 500/Punto/MiTo and Luxury Ferrari/Maserati
Opel has the mid-size with the Insignia and small cross-overs (as I said yesterday the Insignia fits the profile of a future Chrysler 200M perfectly)
And Chrysler has the large paltform, more importantly it has the Grand Cherokee and Dodge RAM.
Vauxhall is dumped as a Manufacturer (lots of english workers out of jobs!!) and Saab goes the same way but is used to help establish Alfa in the US (if you can't sell Alfa's in Chrysler dealership, you sure can at Saab, then the next 9-3 and/or 9-5 shares platform with the Alfa 159)

It is a grand plan for sure but you can see why

What is in the drinking water at Fiat?

Will Fiat be so over leveraged that the Italian government will need to rescue them?

Or will Fiat be looking to the US to help them out?

Either way, it is time for Daddy to take Jr.'s credit card away.
