While everything about the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe screams “I belong to the E-Class lineup,” the successor to the CLK is actually based on the new C-Class platform.

According to CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA Ernst Lieb, putting the 2010 E-Class Coupe on the C-Class platform gives the car better performance characteristics.

“You can expect a stiffer car with a bit more performance,” Lieb told Automotive News. “Customers want that.”

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe will go on sale this summer in the U.S. and will be available with two variants including the 292-hp E350 Coupe and the 388-hp E550 Coupe. Prices start at $48,925 for the 2010 E350 Coupe and $55,525 for the 2010 E550 Coupe.

So is there going to be a true C-Class coupe to compete with the 3-series convertible?

so where is the news!? the old clk was also based on the old c-class platform.

it is their way of charging more for the car as it is in a class up from the C and put the premium against it.

If they launched a new CLK they would be under more pressure to keep the price aligned with 3-series coupe or Audi A5 or G37. The last CLK was over priced but a huge profit making scenario as I read somewhere it actually costs them less to make a CLK then a C class yet they charge a hefty markup on it

For near $50,000, I'll take the Porsche Boxster S over this. It's a Porsche.
