FoMoCo has confirmed that an email being circulated offering 500 units of the 2010 Ford Fusion for $15,000 is a hoax. Ford said that the sales manager listed in the email is not a company employee.

Ford did how ever take the opportunity to pass along some info that is true:

- The all-new 2010 Fusion Hybrid is America’s most fuel efficient mid-size car with a certified 41 mpg rating in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
- This tops the Toyota Camry hybrid by 8 mpg in the city and 2 mpg on the highway.
- The real MSRP for a 2010 Fusion Hybrid starts at $27,270.

I don't know if you'd better compare it to the Camry or to the Prius. The Prius has a wheelbase of only 1 inch less than the Fusion, which translates to about 1 inch less interior space in every direction. The Prius however, has about the same range of almost 600 miles on the highway, but consumes 12 gallons for that, while the Fusion needs 17! And by the way, it's $4K cheaper, which buys you, eh, how much gas?

Your average consumer is not going to be concerned with the wheelbase ob their vehicles. The average consumer believes that the Fusion competes with the Camry and that's the only thing that matters, regardless of what Toyota claims.
