This is great news!! the reservations will keep development going until the government loans come through..while the $40k price tag is expensive..it's within reach of most BMW/Mercedes/Lexus buyers and will further fund development for an even lower cost car that the rest of us can afford! Go Tesla!! Thanks for taking the risks the “big car companies” wouldn't!!!

FYI..the 7 seat plan is 2 front seat, 3 back seat, and 2 rear facing fold down child “jump seats” under the hatchback.. like available in some Volvo v70 wagons..kinda like the old station wagons. The lack of a gas engine and fuel tank allows for lots more storage room both in the trunk and hood.

way to go tesla, its good to see an american company leading the way.

i cant see this thing seating seven either…the pictures show 3 seats in the back and two up front. maybe you can squeeze 4 in the back and the center console folds up as a seat?

The Tesla website says this thing seats 7 people.
Yes, 7.
The only way I can see this as being viable is if you stick two in the front, three on the rear, and then another two facing the rear behind each of the front seats.
Anyone else think this is a slightly odd claim?
