A report by the New York Times says that GM is talking to Fiat SpA for a stake in the Italian automaker in exchange for its European and Latin American operations. GM has recently been in talks with Fiat about the sale of its German brand, Opel.

Sources familiar with the matter said that GM wants at least a 30 percent stake in Fiat’s car business. Meanwhile, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said that he is willing to give up less than 10 percent. Insiders say that GM sees its Latin American business as a bargaining chip since it is a profitable division.

It has been previously reported that Marchionne is trying to merge Fiat Group Automobiles, its stake in Chrysler and General Motors Europe into a new company.

Didn't GM pay 2Billlion or so to get out of an alliance with Fiat 3 or 4 years ago

    Now they want back in

The three Stooges could run GM better than the current management

  • GMfan87

yeah…if they follow through with any sales to fiat it will be a big mistake, especially if they give up opel

  • Chris

GM is run by idiots. Selling any state in Opel is a bad move. Just go into bankruptcy and work out your issues!

All the more reason not to buy GM or Chrysler vehicles. Both are too stupid to survive and Fiat seems to have lost their minds.

All three are going to entangle themselves to the point of failure. Will the Italian government prop Fiat and/or Chrysler? Not likely.

Will the taxpayer continue to fund GM or Chrysler? No, but the current administration would probably be willing to.

What are the death pool projections for GM, Chrysler and Fiat?

Healthcare premiums for UAW members sky-rocket when Obamas reform plans fail sending Fiat back to italy tail betweeen its legs but it continues to provide Penske/Saturn with Opel technology and makes a fortune selling Alfa spare parts!!!

Chrysler is propped up by a consortium lead by Lee Iacoca for another couple of years but finally dies in 2015.

GM Decides to dump every brand except for Buick. It then moves it entire white-collar heavy operation out of detriot to Beijing (didn't it used to be Peking – Beijing duck doesn't sound as nice) where it asks the Chinese government for aid, eventually bringing an end to communism!!!

The CEO of GM returns to America a hero and wins the 2016 presidential election in a landslide

His first act is to banish FoMoCo to Argentina, suggesting those bastards where Cheating in '09, everybody knew it and muttering something about Fusion Hybrids drive backwards in the southern hemisphere

    GM Lives for ever!!!!!
