In an exclusive interview with AutoWeek, GM’s CEO Fritz Henderson said that the future of the Chevrolet Corvette is secure. He said that while the current Corvette platform is going under continuous development, the seventh-generation ‘Vette is also on track.

Henderson did not say when the Corvette C7 would hit showrooms.

It was reported earlier that the C7 Corvette would be delayed until 2013. GM said that due to the high-cost of development, switching from the current front-engine layout to a mid-engine was not possible.

The current C6 Corvette has been in production since 2005 and uses many of the major components from the fifth-generation model.

I hope that the new owners - the Greens - keep their fingers and ideas out of the development. This will be the litmus test of where GM is going.
