UAW: Ford must wait awhile to modify its labor agreement

UAW President Ron Gettlefinger said that the United Auto Workers have been “hearing a little bit of noise from across town” (Dearborn, Michigan to be exact) since its members have ratified changes to its agreement with Chrysler last week.

FoMoCo just reached a modified contract with the UAW in early March, but the Dearborn automaker now says that it would expect additional concessions from the UAW deals with Chrysler and GM.

GettlefingerĀ hasn’t ruled out additional concessions for Ford but said that Ford must wait awhile. He said that the UAW is not obligated to modify a labor agreement with Ford since it is the only U.S. automaker that hasn’t received federal funding.

“We were pleased to go in and work out an agreement with Ford early on that satisfied their requirements at the time,” Gettelfinger said.
